From the ideas that we all come up with and then post to the Weyforward Ideas League (or borrow from other locations around the world) we will try to make the best actually happen here in Weymouth & Portland.

There have already been some successful projects that have sprung from the Weyforward Ideas League. For example, the annual Ideas League in local schools, the sea swim centre at Greenhill, the maritime literary festival and, also closely connected to it all, the Repair Cafe Weymouth. A lot has already been achieved.

Now, however, we intend to try to increase the speed of positive change in Weymouth & Portland by working with Weymouth College and the DWP (via the #Kickstart Scheme) to create exciting jobs for local young people. The candidates will be paid to do varied and interesting work to progress real ideas whilst receiving timely support and training on-the-job. The intention is that these ideas will become successful community projects that build social capital or alternatively sustainable non-profit community businesses whose staff earn a real living wage as soon as is possible.

Below are some of the ideas we intend to develop for the benefit of Weymouth & Portland and those directly involved in implementing them. The first stage will be to recruit and place a local young person into a new, responsible and pivotal paid role associated with each idea.

Weyforward CIC itself will be part of this project because the concept is very much in tune with how we wish (and had planned) to develop.

The website will have public facing pages but it will also have an intranet with cloud folders and a digital classroom in its backend. This is so that employees and volunteers will be able to work and learn together as they build the company, its productivity and communication processes.
